Wolfurt, Österreich - The Logistikriese Gebrüder Weiss recorded a successful financial year in 2024, although the challenges are numerous. Sales in the Air & Sea division rose by impressive 21 percent to 939 million euros, especially thanks to the expansion of the network in the USA and Germany and the high transport volumes in the transacific trade. These people also brought increasing rates from China to Europe at sea freight exports. Due to attacks in the Red Sea, the container ships took the longer route around the Cape of Good Hope, which led to adaptations into delivery traffic, as Vorarlberg.Af reported.
In the Land Transport and Logistics division, sales of 1.52 billion euros were confirmed, which corresponds to an increase of five percent. The parcel service DPD Austria, in which Gebrüder Weiss is involved, moved over 63 million packages in 2024. According to managing director Wolfram Senger-Weiss, growth is primarily due to export and private customers. In order to meet the increasing requirements, the company invested a total of 124 million euros in the expansion and modernization of its infrastructure in 2024. This includes the construction of a modern logistics and IT center in Wolfurt, supplemented by further extensions at various locations, such as Transport-online.de
sustainability and challenges
As part of his strategy for climate optimization, Gebrüder Weiss relies on e-mobility and renewable energies. With its 34 photovoltaic systems in 2024, the company achieved around 13,000 megawatt hours of electricity, which corresponds to about half of the total electricity requirement of all locations. Wolfram Senger-Weiss emphasizes that despite the positive business figures, the continuing economic weakness in Europe, increasing tariffs and the challenges of the automotive industry tighten the competitive situation.
