Big changes are coming to Ludwigshafen: The new “City West” district along the future Helmut-Kohl-Allee is taking shape. Construction schedule and first steps
Basic preparations for the infrastructure project, which is divided into three areas, are already underway this fall. Work on the West Bridge will start in March 2024, while the tender for the construction of Helmut-Kohl-Allee is also planned for early 2024. Construction is scheduled to be completed by 2031. In addition, extensive clearing work, which must be completed by the end of February 2024, will also be carried out to make space for the new construction projects. These measures are necessary in order to be able to start construction of the West Bridge on time and ensure that nature is subsequently reforested by planting over 900 new trees.
Another important point is the relocation of an estimated few hundred wall lizards, which will also have to be relocated to new habitats before construction work begins. The city administration is therefore careful to harmonize both the infrastructure projects and nature conservation during the construction phase.
