Amazon is withdrawing from Zweibrücken after just three months!
Amazon has announced that it will cease operations at its temporary distribution center in Zweibrücken after just three months. The closure will take place on January 8, 2025. The distribution center, built in Rhineland-Palatinate, was completed in 2023 and was empty for over a year before the company moved in at the end of 2024 to support the Christmas business. The original plan was to create around 400 new jobs at the facility, but only around 200 employees worked in two shifts in the months October to December 2024 Mercury reported.
The closure affects 200 jobs, with most of the affected employees being students. They were taken to the distribution center on free buses and received the Germany ticket. The employment contracts were limited because Amazon was already planning to end operations after the Christmas business. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that operations will end as planned on January 8th. It is unclear whether Amazon will return to Zweibrücken in the future and how fr.de reported.
Closure details
The distribution center in Zweibrücken was used to redistribute goods to other locations in the region. It was set up in particular to relieve pressure on other logistics locations during the Christmas business. From January 8, 2025, parcels will no longer be sorted in Zweibrücken.
At the same time, construction began in April 2024 on a new logistics center for Mercedes-Benz in the Rastatt district, which, according to the plan, is scheduled to go into operation in the second quarter of 2025 and will create 500 jobs.
