Amazon withdraws from Zweibrücken after only three months!

Amazon has announced that it would stop operating its temporary distribution center in Zweibrücken after only three months. The closure takes place on January 8, 2025. The distribution center built in Rhineland-Palatinate was completed in 2023 and was empty for over a year before the company moved in at the end of 2024 to support the Christmas business. It was originally planned to create around 400 new jobs in the facility, but from October to December 2024 only about 200 employees worked in two shifts, such as Merkur reported.

The closure affects 200 jobs, with most of the employees concerned being students. These were taken to the distribution center with free buses and received the Germany ticket. The employment contracts were limited because Amazon already planned to end the company after the Christmas business during the hiring. An Amazon spokesman confirmed that the company ends as planned on January 8th. Unklar ist, ob Amazon in Zukunft wieder nach Zweibrücken zurückkehrt, wie fr.de berichtete.

Details for closure

The distribution center in Zweibrücken served to redistribute goods to other locations in the region. In particular, it had been set up to relieve other logistics locations during the Christmas business. From January 8, 2025, no packages will be sorted in Zweibrücken.

At the same time, the construction of a new logistics center for Mercedes-Benz in the district of Rastatt began in April 2024, which, according to the plan, is scheduled to go into operation in the second quarter of 2025 and will create 500 jobs.
