The departure times are clear: in Geesthacht it starts at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., while the trains in Bergedorf Süd start at the same times. The ticket prices from Geesthacht to Bergedorf are € 5.00, and children between 4 and 14 years pay half.
public transport connection and history
The railway line, which is now used as part of the museum company, has a long history. The route between Bergedorf and Geesthacht was originally opened on December 20, 1906 and had played an important role in traffic between the Hamburg districts since then. According to wikipedia she led through several stations such as Eschburg and Börnsen and was also known for the transport of goods, including important materials. Bergedorf-Geesthachter Eisenbahn AG hired regular passenger transport in 1953, but since 1976 the route has been used for nostalgic steam trains that keep the historical legacy of this train alive.
The future reactivation of the route for passenger transport is already being discussed. Political support and financing plans are underway, with a direct connection to the Nettelnburg S-Bahn station being promised. These developments could improve the connections between Geesthacht and Hamburg in the coming years and revive the old connection from the first half of the 20th century.
