Deutsche Bahn improves ticket purchasing: Data protection is a top priority!

Deutsche Bahn has announced significant changes to the purchase of saver fare tickets for December 15th. In the future, customers will no longer have to provide personal information, such as an email address or mobile phone number, in order to benefit from discounted tickets. This is particularly true for travelers buying tickets at the train counter, and comes in response to growing criticism over previous regulations that excluded customers without internet access or a smartphone. Alexander Roßnagel, the Hessian state data protection officer, praised the decision as a constructive step towards resolving the data protection conflict that arose from numerous complaints, such as tz.de reported.

The overhaul of the sales process will come into effect on December 15 and will now allow travelers to obtain saver fare tickets at the counter without providing an email or mobile phone number. Only a few users do not have an email address, but the railway also wants to give these people access to the savings prices. A railway spokeswoman emphasized that it is still recommended to provide an email address in order to better communicate content such as information about track changes or delays. In addition, at the beginning of the new year, Deutsche Bahn is introducing a new savings price called “Sparpreis Business”, which is specially designed for business travelers to make traveling by train more attractive. These changes reflect customer feedback and show that the railway is ready to respond to the needs of its travelers as well RND highlighted.
