FaktuM says goodbye: A look back at 50 years of media history!
The last print edition of FaktuM was published on April 4, 2025, looking back on the impressive five decades of Mucha Verlag and the MG Media Group. This issue offers a 180-page compilation of highlights from five different media. The topics covered in this final edition include: Tourism ranking 2024, Austria's efforts to attract Chinese tourists and the problem of skiing accidents.
In a letter to the editor, the esteemed publisher Christian W. Mucha looks back on his career as a print publisher and outlines the future digital direction. An editorial by Manfred Schuhmayer honors Mucha's creative work and significant contributions to the media landscape. The cover story addresses the end of the print era, which gave rise to numerous special interest magazines such as FM, ExtraService, FaktuM, Elite and CheckList.
Tourism in focus
The tourism ranking, which was created with the support of 15 industry experts, receives particular attention. The winners are AUA boss Annette Mann and Vienna Airport board member Günther Ofner. This award reflects the significant progress and challenges in Austrian tourism.
The issue also addresses the return of business travel, which will be optimized through the use of artificial intelligence. However, this also poses risks such as cybercrime. An analysis of skiing accidents provides insights into the reasons behind these incidents, while an experience report on potential problems when traveling to the Maldives is thought-provoking.
Economic opportunities in pilgrimage tourism
Another relevant topic is pilgrimages, which are proving to be an economic opportunity for tourism, especially in Mecca, where there is an increase in pilgrim flows. In order to specifically address these and other challenges, the tourism industry relies on current statistics and studies conducted by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce be provided. These include comprehensive data on the tourism job market, arrival and overnight stay statistics as well as the economic importance of tourism.
With the current edition 2025 The study “Tourism and the leisure industry in numbers” provides an overview of tourism developments in recent years. These studies are crucial in order to recognize the overall context and strategically plan the future direction of Austrian tourism.
