Rewe closes warehouse in Lauterach: 37 jobs at risk!
The Rewe Group is planning a realignment of its logistics in western Austria, which will have a significant impact on employees in the region. According to 5min.at, the camp in Lauterach, Vorarlberg, will be closed in mid-2026. The closure affects a total of 37 employees, who are now facing an uncertain future.
Operations at the warehouse in Lauterach are scheduled to end in summer 2026. The Rewe Group has already announced that logistics for Vorarlberg will in future be completely taken over by the Stams location in Tyrol. The location in Stams will therefore be expanded into a central logistics hub to ensure the supply of goods to the region. At the moment, over 75% of goods delivered to Vorarlberg come from Stams.
Changes in the logistics network
The Tyrolean warehouse currently has an area of 14,000 square meters. As part of the redesign, expansions are planned that include additional rows of shelves and setup areas. This should not only increase efficiency, but also create new jobs. A social plan is currently being developed for the affected employees, which is being coordinated with the works councils.
In addition, the Rewe Group is holding talks with the companies ADEG and Sutterlüty to discuss possible takeovers of the employees. Furthermore, it is being examined how the storage property in Lauterach can be used after closure, which indicates responsible use of existing resources.
The decision to close the warehouse is part of a larger strategy that Rewe Group implemented in Vorarlberg two years ago: At that time, the group completely withdrew its Billa brand from the market. This measure demonstrates the company's ongoing commitment to focus on more economically efficient structures.
Rewe Group faces a significant challenge as it adapts its logistics. At the same time, it becomes clear that the restructuring can also offer opportunities for the future labor market in the region.
