Alarming numbers: Unemployment in Upper Austria explodes!

In an alarming development, the Chamber of Labor in Upper Austria is forced not to agree to the planned budget of the labor market service (AMS). AK President Andreas Stangl expresses his concern by explaining: "The current bankruptcies are only the top of the iceberg. The federal government has overslept the developments on the labor market. Instead of budget cuts, more money is now needed for the AMS and its customers." This drastic warning is followed by an increase in unemployment in Upper Austria by almost 20 percent in November compared to the previous year. Apprenticeship seekers with an increase of over a third (35 percent) are particularly affected, as can be seen from current reports.

The budget design provides for massive savings: In 2025, the AMS budget is to be shortened by around 10 million euros without the effects of inflation being taken into account. Further cuts are in prospect for 2026. Stangl emphasizes the potential negative consequences of these cuts, which could endanger the careful advice and training courses at the AMS. "In my view, the AMS budget cuts are forgotten. We therefore do not take the budget decision with it," adds Stangl. These cuts could lead directly to a significant decline in support for people, which is distant from the labor market and long -term, everyone must adapt to the possibly restricted services that could lead to an increase in unemployment. These alarming developments are also classified by AK Upper Austria as political failure, as noted in a report: "The alarming number of 917 apprenticeship seekers in Upper Austria at the end of September is a clear order to politics".

urgent demands of the Chamber of Labor

Due to this worrying situation, the Chamber of Labor calls for several measures to secure the future of employment. This includes an increase in the AMS budget so that measures to work market policy such as training, advice or employment projects can be adequately financed. Stangl also demands an increase in unemployment benefit to at least 70 percent and its adaptation to inflation so that the income security is guaranteed. "Active labor market policy works differently!" Said Stangl, who also emphasizes that young, older and health -affected job seekers in particular will suffer from the cuts if there are no changes. In order to counter the challenges of the modern working world, investments in the business location and technological and ecological change are essential to create new jobs and to combat unemployment, as on Arbeitsmarkt-passieren.html"> ooe.
