Viennese property developer competition: Innovation for social housing in focus!
Wien 20., Österreich - The city of Vienna continues to set standards in social housing. Vice mayor and residential building councilor Kathrin Gaál explained that the internationally recognized Viennese residential model offers innovative solutions for the challenges of the future. The developer competition, an important quality instrument, plays a key role in the continuous further development of the funded residential construction. To date, around 90 competitions have been carried out since 1995, which led to the creation of around 46,000 residential units for over 100,000 people. This reflects urban development policy, which is closely linked to the needs of the residents.
The international award of the developer competition with the Urbact-Good-Practise Label in October 2024 is particularly noteworthy. This is what the outstanding work is recognized as part of a European program in order to master urban challenges in solidarity. This award shows how showproof projects in Vienna serve as a model for other cities, which was enthusiastically accepted by the representatives of the living fund_wien. "International delegations are interested in the Wiener concept and often visit the living fund_wien to learn how we shape our funded residential construction," said the management, Gregor Puscher and Dieter Groschopf.
New competition call for Vienna 20
A new property developer competition that takes place in cooperation with ÖBB-Immobilienmanagement GmbH brings a breath of fresh air to the city's construction projects. Around 530 subsidized residential units are advertised for the Nordwestbahnhof project area in the 20th district. This competition is part of the "residential building offensive 2024+" and focuses on the development of climate tatters residential quarters that are planned according to circular economy principles. The first phases of the competition are already underway, and the participants are required to develop innovative concepts. The final meeting of the assessment committee is scheduled for October 2025, which promises a rapid implementation of the plans, as the details on the website of Wohnfonds_wien can be found.
