Attempted murder of policewomen: van driver on the run!

On the night of June 23, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred in Seesen, Lower Saxony, which is classified as an attempted homicide. Police officers from the Seesen Police Department wanted to check a white van that was driving through a supermarket parking lot without lights. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the occupant fled on foot while the driver headed straight toward the officers. Despite the immediate use of firearms, the driver was able to escape.

The abandoned van was later found near a school site, but there is still no trace of the occupants. The police have warned the population in Seesen not to pick up hitchhikers and are asking witnesses for information to help solve the case. This illustrates how serious the situation is, as the incident is seen as a targeted attack on the emergency services. The Goslar criminal police are conducting the investigation.

Fierce chase in the region

The incident in Seesen is not the only dramatic police operation in the region. On the same weekend, on June 22nd, there was another incident in which a police officer was injured. At 12:30 a.m., officers were conducting a traffic stop in Seesen/Wildemann when an Opel ignored the stop signals and fled into the Münchehof district. The escape led over several streets to Wildemann, where the vehicle was finally stopped in a driveway at the edge of the forest.

Suddenly the Opel raced towards the police officers, causing a 26-year-old police officer to be hit and injured. Here, too, a shot was fired from a service weapon. The escaping vehicle crashed in the forest shortly afterwards, but the escape continued on foot, which made extensive search operations - including the use of a police helicopter - necessary. Finally, two male inmates near Wildemann were arrested, but they remained uninjured.

Crime in Lower Saxony

The police crime statistics (PKS) of the state of Lower Saxony show that incidents like this require serious considerations about combating crime and the safety of emergency services. The PKS therefore records not only the size but also the composition of the group of suspects and enables changes in crime to be observed. Investigations that lead to such extraordinary incidents are directly related to the analysis of these statistics according to the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office.

Current events highlight how dangerous police work can be and underscore the need to take consistent action to ensure the safety of officers and the public. The police in Lower Saxony continue to strive to comprehensively clarify the incidents and hope for support from the population.
