Tragic accident in the forest: forestry worker dies after falling tree!

A tragic incident occurred in a forest near Kefermarkt when a 30-year-old forestry worker from Hagenberg was fatally injured by a falling tree while harvesting wood. How ORF OÖ reported, the worker used a chainsaw to cut down an oak tree that had a trunk diameter of about 70 cm. Suddenly, while the tree was not yet completely sawn through, the trunk twisted and fell on him with full force. He was trapped under the tree trunk and despite immediate first aid measures carried out by a work colleague and the 49-year-old property owner and his father, he could not be saved.

Rescue efforts and tragic end

First aid was given immediately when those present noticed the terrible accident. Despite the efforts of the emergency doctor and the paramedics who tried to resuscitate the seriously injured man at the scene of the accident, he ultimately succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident.

Kefermarkt, a town that was shaped by Slovak forest workers as early as the 11th century, has a long history of timber harvesting. These workers, known as “chefri,” which derives from the Indo-European origin “thug,” were responsible for developing the forests in the region, history records. This connection to timber harvesting brings with it tragic memories when such fatal accidents occur, reminding us of the risks of this work. As local history shows, the forest is not only a resource but also poses dangers for those who work in it.
