Social protests: Red Youth demands a stop to family reunification!

The protests of the red youth organizations are gaining momentum: On Wednesday, members of the Socialist Youth (SJ), who are also supported by SPÖ leader Andreas Babler, demonstrated in front of the Federal Chancellery against the government's announced measure to stop family reunification. The outraged youth described the decision as “pandering to right-wing positions”. This disagreement could have serious consequences for the political climate in Austria.

The young socialists demand that human rights be a top priority and make it clear that they will not compromise. Babler, who in the past initiated critical statements about the government but now shares the more conciliatory attitude of the Socialist Youth, is part of this movement. The protests are a clear indication that the red youth organization is not prepared to accept the issue of family reunification in silence.

Historical roots of the falcons

In this context, the Socialist Youth of Germany – Die Falken (SJD – Die Falken) plays an important role. The organization was founded in 1904 and has since established itself as one of the leading voices in the field of child and youth work in Germany. She worked tirelessly to realize socialist ideals and represented the rights of children and young people. How Wikipedia reports, the Falcons are divided into all 16 federal states in Germany and have shown a close connection to the labor movement and the SPD for decades, while still being independent of any party.

The Falcons are known not only for their social work, but also for their resistance to right-wing ideologies and militarization. Since 2020, they have been more intensively committed to combating right-wing terror and are committed to peaceful, democratic coexistence. These values are also reflected in the current political discussion about family reunification, in which the youth organization vehemently advocates for an open and fair immigration system.
