Solidarity in Waidhofen: Red Cross helps those in need every Saturday!

An impressive community project takes place every Saturday in Waidhofen an der Ybbs. Red Cross volunteers are working hard to provide food for those in need Blackboard Austria to spend. Mayor Werner Krammer and Deputy Mayor Armin Bahr support the committed team on site, which underlines the solidarity in the city. The Red Cross has rented suitable space at Südtirolerplatz 3 to store and distribute the food.

Effective organization for those in need

The process is well thought out: registration for the issue begins at 6:30 p.m. and numerous people are already waiting in front of the doors, including migrants and people in difficult life situations. Christine Brandl, the director of the food bank, explains: "The first bus with food arrives at 7 p.m. Everything has to be sorted and lined up quickly." The ingredients mostly come from regional retailers and sometimes include products whose expiration date has expired or which can no longer be sold.

Food is distributed carefully and takes into account the size of households so that everyone in need is adequately supplied. "It's impressive to see how helpful the Waidhofen population is. Solidarity is very important here," emphasizes Krammer. This weekly campaign is not only organized by the helpers, but also offers space for personal interactions that often reveal emotional stories. Despite the tight schedule, there is always a moment for a conversation, which gives the whole operation a human touch, as one volunteer reports. The work of the Tafel is therefore not only important, but also a valuable connection between the people in Waidhofen.
