Illegal work in Burgenland: 16 arrests in a major operation!
On Monday, March 10, 2025, a large-scale inspection to combat undeclared work took place in the Mattersburg district (Burgenland). Forces from the Aliens and Border Police Department, the Financial Police and the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum carried out a key operation. Suddenly, 16 people were arrested because they were found to have exceeded the permitted length of stay for work in the Schengen area. During this operation, a total of around 10,000 euros in security deposits were collected from the affected people and they were instructed to leave the country “immediately”. These tough measures to combat illegal employment were developed as part of a broader strategy to promote compliance with immigration laws, as well as the police announced.
Measure against undeclared work
The people affected now have to leave Austria within a very short time, which shows how seriously the authorities take the fight against illegal working relationships. This action follows a series of similar interventions aimed at regulating working conditions and ensuring that all workers comply with legal requirements. The increased controls illustrate the authority's focus on maintaining legal standards in the labor market while at the same time protecting jobs for people legally living in Austria. The Alien police Stresses that this action is part of a comprehensive package of measures to combat illegal immigration and labor relations that violate the law.
