New coach at LASK: Joao Sacramento brings international flair!
LASK has signed a new head coach, Joao Sacramento. The 36-year-old Portuguese will take over the position until summer 2027. Sacramento brings with him impressive international experience, which he gained at well-known clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma and Paris Saint-Germain. During his time at these clubs he had the opportunity to work with top stars such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane. Sports director Dino Buric describes Sacramento as a “meticulous worker with exceptional international experience” and sees great potential in the team, which Sacramento should develop together with the team. The official start of his work will take place with the upcoming summer preparation.
Prior to his new role at LASK, Sacramento spent time in the Qatari Stars League with Al Duhail SC, where he worked under Christophe Galtier. Sacramento began his coaching career at the age of 18. He completed a degree in Football Coaching and Performance at the University of South Wales and analyzed the work of José Mourinho, particularly his concept of tactical periodization. Sacramento has also worked for the Welsh Football Association and Cardiff City. In 2014, he was brought to AS Monaco by Luis Campos as head of analytics, where he worked with coach Leonardo Jardim.
Successful stations and modern approaches
In 2017, Sacramento accepted Marcelo Bielsa's call to OSC Lille. Under his interim leadership, Lille reached the runners-up and participation in the UEFA Champions League in autumn 2019. In November 2019, José Mourinho brought him to Tottenham, where Sacramento worked with both Harry Kane and Gareth Bale. After a time at AS Roma, he returned to Paris Saint-Germain as an assistant coach and won the French championship title there. His last stop before moving to LASK was in Qatar, where he worked from October 2023 to summer 2025.
Sacramento is fluent in several languages including Spanish, French, English, Italian and Portuguese. He has made a name for himself as a precise analyst who uses modern training methods. At a time when coaches play a key role in football, Sacramento is prepared to develop the diverse skills of its players. Especially in view of the restructured training systems in football, the need for competent and committed coaches is becoming increasingly clear.
Promoting innovation through technology
Modern trainers are increasingly supported by digital assistants like B42 that help them optimize their training methods. This tool provides detailed insights into players' performance, including their strengths and weaknesses as well as training intensity. Coaches can create customized athletic training plans tailored to position, performance level and phase of the season. B42 helps to optimize the balance between stress and regeneration and supports trainers in recognizing potential overload.
With Sacramento, LASK will take a new, dynamic approach to coaching development to improve both individual and team performance. The official presentation of the new head coach takes place at the start of training, and the anticipation of what is to come is already palpable.
