New General Secretary of the Young People's Party: Toni Grünsteidl takes over!

Toni Grünsteidl was appointed as the new General Secretary of the Young People's Party (JVP) on October 24, 2025. He is succeeding Dominik Berger, who is giving up the position after almost three years. Claudia Plakolm, Federal Chairwoman of the JVP and Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Family, was pleased about the new collaboration with Grünsteidl.

The 24-year-old Grünsteidl, who comes from Gablitz in the St. Pölten-Land district, has already made significant contributions to the JVP. Particularly noteworthy is his role in “Mission100”, the largest participatory project in the party’s history. This project aims to define 100 milestones for the JVP over the next 20 years; In the last few weeks, 1,821 supporters from all over Austria have been won. Plakolm praised both Grünsteidl's commitment and his proactive approach.

Experiences and perspectives

Before his new role, Grünsteidl was already regional manager of the JVP Lower Austria and is also a young local councilor in his home community of Gablitz. In his new position, he makes it clear that the JVP acts as an important platform for shaping the future of Austria. The party, which has over 100,000 members, is the largest political youth network in Austria.

In its almost 80-year history, the JVP has campaigned, among other things, for issues relevant to youth and lowering the voting age to 16. Under Plakolm's leadership, over 20 demands have already been successfully implemented, which demonstrates the enthusiasm for political work within the party.

Youth representation in Austria

Grünsteidl's commitment is particularly relevant in the context of the Federal Youth Representative Council (BJV), which has represented the interests of all children and young people in Austria since 2001. The BJV has a social partnership status in youth issues and advocates for a variety of issues that affect over 3 million young people between the ages of 0 and 30. The BJV currently represents more than 50 organizations, including nationwide children's and youth associations as well as school and student representatives.

Due to his role as Secretary General, Grünsteidl will also be responsible for working with these important organizations. The BJV is organized under the umbrella of the “Austrian Children and Youth Representation” association and is supported by the Federal Chancellery.

For further information about the BJV, contact options such as the website www.bjv.at and the telephone hotline +43 1 214 44 99 are available.

Grünsteidl's election as General Secretary marks an important step in the ongoing development of the JVP and sets the course for the organization's future political work in the interests of youth.
