New operator for the Poly youth center: Diakonie takes over in Bad Düben!

The Poly youth center in Bad Düben will be under new management from January 2025. The Diakonisches Werk Delitzsch/Eilenburg takes over the sponsorship of the youth center from the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Awo) district association of North Saxony, which has operated the youth center since 2005. This decision results from a tender by the district of Northern Saxony, in which both providers presented their concepts to a jury.

The jury, which consisted of representatives of the city council factions, evaluated the concepts using a points system, with the result falling in favor of Diakonie. Bad Düben's mayor Astrid Münster hopes that the change will provide a new beginning for the youth center. Awo regrets the decision and describes it as a painful loss. The managing director of Awo Nordsachsen, Marko Schreiber, explained that they fought hard for sponsorship, but emphasized that Awo will continue to be an important partner in the social sector.

Planned developments in the youth center

Diakonie's managing director, Tobias Münscher-Paulig, will present details of the planned content work in the Poly youth center in January. The handover from Awo to Diakonie is scheduled for mid-January. The Diakonie has set itself the goal of reopening the youth center as quickly as possible and continuing the work with children and youth.

According to the current information provided by Awo Nordsachsen, the Poly children's and youth center offers a variety of social and educational activities. It offers, among other things, gaming options such as card and board games, table tennis and darts, as well as various experiential education projects. Regular opening times are Tuesday to Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., although there are different times during the holidays.

As part of its previous sponsorship, Awo Nordsachsen has also paid greater attention to expanding social-educational offerings in the region, which is reflected in various leisure and educational projects, such as sporting events and thematic project days.

Comprehensive information about the Poly youth center and its offerings is available on the website Awo North Saxony to view. Further details about the takeover and future plans of the youth center can be found on the website LVZ.de.
