Mikl-Leitner draws a successful conclusion: Lower Austria is on the rise!

The political developments in Lower Austria under the leadership of the ÖVP and FPÖ show remarkable progress. According to [oe24](https://www.oe24.at/oesterreich/chronik/niederoesterreich/mikl-leitner-will-mantel-der-menschenrechte-fuer- criminal-migranten-lueften/636206296), state leader Johanna Mikl-Leitner draws a positive interim conclusion: 50% of her work program has already been implemented. The most important reform projects include the health plan to secure the future of the health system, task reform to increase the efficiency of the state administration and the expansion of child care.

A particular focus is on combating radical Islam and promoting integration. To this end, measures such as fines of up to 2,500 euros for parents unwilling to integrate and the establishment of an observation center by autumn were decided. In addition, Mikl-Leitner calls for changes to the European legal framework for the deportation of migrants who have committed serious crimes and a new regulation for social assistance so that work is financially more attractive than social benefits.

Health Pact 2040+

A crucial step in healthcare reform is the Health Pact 2040+, which was adopted on March 27, 2025, to address the challenges in the healthcare system. This includes restructuring the system in Lower Austria to combat skills shortages and long waiting times, as outlined in noe-aktuell. A committee of over 50 experts developed the restructuring plan.

As part of these reforms, several hospitals will be converted into clinics with special functions, while the Gänserndorf day clinic will be transformed into a primary care unit. Two central clinics in St. Pölten and Wiener Neustadt will offer highly specialized medical services. In addition, the Weinviertel Süd-West State Hospital will merge the hospitals in Hollabrunn, Korneuburg and Stockerau.

Investments and local healthcare

Investments of up to 120 million euros are planned for the implementation of the health pact, of which 30 million euros are to be made available by 2027. A central goal is to provide comprehensive health services in every district capital. Through complicated negotiations, the SPÖ was able to push through several key points that are of great importance to the population.

The conversion of the Melk Hospital into a “beacon of care and geriatric medicine” and the creation of centers for geriatric medicine in Klosterneuburg and Waidhofen an der Thaya underline the need for a future-oriented healthcare structure. Due to the aging society, it will be essential that care and waiting times for doctor and surgical appointments are significantly shortened.

The state government faces the challenge of implementing the announced changes quickly and effectively in order to meet the expectations of the population, while at the same time laying the foundations for a significant improvement in the health service.
