Central Saxony district: Donate to animal protection instead of Christmas cards!

In a remarkable move, Dr. Lothar Beier, the first alderman of the Central Saxony district, decided not to use traditional printed Christmas greetings this year and instead distributed the saved money of 1,500 euros to several animal welfare associations. This decision is part of a pleasant tradition that has been maintained for several years. The donations were recently handed over to the Ostrau animal shelter, which is run by the Döbeln and surrounding area animal protection association, as well as to four other organizations in the region, such as the animal protection associations in Leisnig, Mittweida and Freiberg as well as the Central Saxony Wild Bird Care Center DNN reported.

The recipients of the donations each receive 300 euros, important support for their dedicated work in animal protection. Dr. Beier praised the work of animal rights activists and their well-run animal shelters, which look after homeless and injured animals. "We are very happy to have many committed animal rights activists in the district. Thank you for your voluntary work," he explained when handing over the checks. The wild bird care in Brand-Erbisdorf, which specializes in the rehabilitation of birds of prey, falcons and owls, is particularly dependent on donations. According to the operators Heike and Peter Jäkel, over 1,000 birds from across the district are already being treated like this Saxon reported. The donations are crucial as they support the care of wild birds and their medical treatment.
