Art full of courage: women against forgetting in Vienna!

Wien, Österreich - The world of art is shaped by extraordinary women, and a new documentary now lifts the pioneers of the feminist movement in the art area into the spotlight. Director Susanne Riegler started her project in 2017 when she found that there was hardly any material about artists from the 1970s in the ORF archive. Their conviction of performing an important documentary work led to comprehensive interviews with 17 outstanding artists who in an 87-minute film, , are bundled. The premiere took place in Vienna and the film will soon also be shown in the Vienna City Cinema and Admiralkino.

The film shows a wide range of voices, including well -known artists such as Renate Bertlmann, Valie Export and Olja Iveković, who describe their fight against patriarchal structures and their artistic challenges. The Verbund Collection supported the project financially and made it easier to combat gender inequality in the art scene. The need to make these artists visible as they are often overlooked. pioneers is an accompanying film series that organizes numerous events between March and June to celebrate the legacy of art pioneers and to discuss their relevance in today's society.

On March 19, there will be a conversation with Riegler and the collection manager Gabriele Schor in the Admiralkino, in which the relevance of the feminist art movement and the current situation of artists are discussed. The film and the accompanying discussions not only offer a look back at the artistic work of the past, but also an outlook on the challenges that women in the art scene are confronted with today. The commitment to the visibility of artists and the appreciation of their contributions are still of great importance.
