Kitzinger swimmers shine at the Christmas swim in Crailsheim!

The swimmers from the Kitzingen gymnastics community shone at the Christmas swim in Crailsheim, where they returned home with an impressive set of medals. Particularly outstanding was Matilda Gold (born 2013), who won three gold medals in her disciplines – butterfly, freestyle and backstroke – as well as one silver (medley) and one bronze (breaststroke). Her teammate Björn Eißner (2015) also won three gold medals (medley, breaststroke, backstroke) and a silver medal (freestyle). The youngest of the group, Jana Wallrapp (2015), also went particularly well: in her first competition she won two gold medals (backstroke, freestyle) and one silver (breaststroke).

Successes in judo sport

Judoka Samira Bock from TSV Großhadern made a strong statement on the international stage and secured the title at the U23 European Championships in Potsdam. In the exciting final, the 20-year-old defeated the Ukrainian Anna Oliinyk-Korniiko and was crowned European champion in the up to 70 kg class. Raffaela Igl from TSV Abensberg won the silver medal in her class up to 78 kg, but had to admit defeat to Ukrainian Yuliia Kurchenko in the final. With their performances, other fighters also contributed to the success of the German team, which took seventh place in the overall ranking.

Both sporting events impressively show how German athletes operate successfully in their respective disciplines. While the Kitzingen swimmers collected medal after medal, the judoka proved that they are competitive at European level. Both in the water and on the mat it became clear once again what talent and hard work can achieve. The successes of the Kitzingen swimmers and the judoka testify to the diversity and strength of German sport.
