Julian Schuster extends his contract with SC Freiburg: A new horizon of success!

SC Freiburg has extended its collaboration with head coach Julian Schuster. The club announced the contract extension on Monday, but the exact contents of the contract were agreed to remain confidential. Schuster, who succeeded Christian Streich in the summer of 2023, led the team to fifth place in the Bundesliga in his first season and thus secured participation in the UEFA Europa League in the coming season. This reports Laola1.

The positive development of SC Freiburg under Schuster is also reflected in the fulfillment of his UEFA Pro license, which he completed in 2024, the highest coaching course in German football. Schuster had previously worked as a liaison coach and played for Freiburg from 2008 to 2018, including seven years as captain. Board member Jochen Saier praised the work of Schuster and his coaching team. “The development of the team under his leadership is very positive,” said Saier. SC Freiburg added that the contracts of assistant coach Lars Voßler and analyst Franz-Georg Wieland were also extended.

Coaching team and perspectives

The coaching team is supplemented by Florian Bruns, Patrick Grolimund, goalkeeping coach Michael Müller, athletic trainer Daniel Wolf, Maximilian Kessler and individual coach Felix Roth. Lars Voßler, who has been an assistant coach since January 2012 and previously worked as a youth coach at the Freiburg football school, is optimistic about the future collaboration. Wieland will be working as assistant coach for analysis in his second season.

Julian Schuster himself emphasizes the great importance of the club and the region for him. “Identifying with SC Freiburg is very important to me,” said the head coach. This bond also seems to be reflected in the commitment of the team, which consisted of 15 players last season. Among them are the ÖFB legionnaires Philipp Lienhart, Michael Gregoritsch and Junior Adamu. Bundesliga.com states that those responsible in Freiburg will continue to attach great importance to continuity and want to build on the successes of last season.

In the coming season, SC Freiburg will not only have to prove itself in the Bundesliga, but also on the international stage, where participation in the UEFA Europa League offers promising opportunities. The contract extension for Schuster and his team should be an important step in the right direction.
