Integration in Cuxhaven: Unique program for better coexistence
Integration is very important in Cuxhaven! The participants were proud to receive their certificates at a celebration of the unique seven-level integration program. Bodo Mayerhof, the first chairman of the Christian Social Works Cuxhaven, praised the efforts of the participants, who come from different countries and cultures. Among them were not only Africans, but also refugee Ukrainians, all of whom share the common goal of integrating into Germany. At the ceremony, which was also attended by Mayor Uwe Santjer, the commitment of the graduates, who have done over 400 hours of voluntary work, was highlighted. With the support of the “Duolingo” app, they learned German and acquired knowledge about German culture. Bodo Mayerhof emphasized that more than 60 percent of the participants have already found a job, which represents a significant benefit for society and the state, as an estimated 120,000 euros in costs were saved.
New Year's reception with family activities
In addition to integration, the city of Cuxhaven is optimistic about the future. On January 7, 2024, the traditional New Year's reception will take place in the Kugelbake Hall, where Mayor Uwe Santjer will welcome guests with new promotions and surprises. Admission is free, and all Cuxhaven residents and guests are invited to take part in various hands-on activities. The event aims to not only reflect back but also strengthen community, and features numerous booths from local businesses as well as musical entertainment. Despite global crises, Santjer emphasizes how important cohesion in the city is in order to overcome challenges together. Entrepreneurs and associations will be present during the reception to introduce themselves and encourage participation, which will promote bonding within the community.
During the New Year's reception there is also the opportunity to donate to the Cuxhaven animal shelter, which will have a stand. The event combines festive entertainment with a good cause, which underlines the solidarity of the citizens. The reception is an important occasion to strengthen the sense of community in Cuxhaven and celebrate the successes of the past year, while at the same time looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of the new year.
