Innovation in journalism: APA and Google rely on digital solutions!
The cooperation between the Austria Press Agency (APA) and Google Austria continues its successful course and is entering its third year. As part of the Digital News Initiative (DNI), innovative projects are implemented to support the media ecosystem. Google will continue to support APA in developing specific applications for the media industry, such as ots.at reported. Projects include Trusted News and Data for Media, which aim to optimize and enrich journalistic work through modern digital solutions.
A central point of the new projects is “Newsroom Live”, a system for real-time planning and collaboration in editorial workflows, which is also to be implemented in the Swiss media market. The “Data4Content Regio” project is also being expanded to make regional data, such as property price developments, usable in journalistic content. In addition, a fact-checking conference will be organized to promote exchanges about combating disinformation, as Google Austria posted on their blog. These events bring together expertise from the DACH region and help to strengthen trust in journalism.
The collaboration also aims to support the APA by offering workshops on digital transformation and the use of AI. In view of the upcoming elections, particular importance is placed on quality journalism working with reliable, verified data. The development of advanced data services and other tools should enable smaller editorial teams in particular to organize their reporting efficiently in order to meet the challenges of 2024, a super election year blog.google reported.
APA CEO Clemens Pig emphasized the importance of such collaborations and the need to find innovative solutions together. Maimuna Mosser, Country Director of Google Austria, also commented positively: “The APA is one of the most important and innovative press agencies in Europe, and we are pleased to continue our collaboration.” This partnership is crucial to supporting Austrian media in technical transformation and maximizing the potential of digital technologies in their newsrooms.
