Hunger in Yemen: Are Aichach organizations helping the forgotten?
The humanitarian situation in Yemen has worsened dramatically. Anne Rappel, chairwoman of the Aichach organizations Aktion Yemenhilfe and Yemen Kinderhilfe, describes the devastating conditions that plague the country, which has been torn apart by civil war. Loud Danube Courier More than half of all deaths since the start of the conflict have been caused by famine and preventable disease. In frightening numbers: a child dies from malnutrition every ten minutes. Three quarters of the population rely on humanitarian aid, while attacks by Houthi rebels further complicate food deliveries. The current situation of the people supported by Rappel is particularly dramatic, as donations have declined sharply due to the war in Ukraine. This has led to Yemen Aid having to stop providing food rations to 2,000 people. Rappel hopes that deliveries will resume if donations increase over the Christmas period.
A life's work for the forgotten
In addition to her humanitarian work, Aenne Rappel has published a book that tells about her experiences and the fate of the people in Yemen. Under the title “Help for the Forgotten,” she describes not only the suffering, but also the friendships and support she experienced during her time in Yemen MyHome reported. Rappel, who has been active in the country for 25 years, describes how her help began in 1996 with a trip that would suddenly change her life. Inspired by the plight of the people in Yemen and her own experiences, she founded several aid organizations, including Yemen Children's Aid, which set up a children's home for war orphans in Taiz.
Rappel's book contains tragic but also inspiring stories that document the commitment and resilience of the Yemeni population. These stories are intended to make visible both the suffering and the unceasing courage of the people of Yemen. Aenne Rappel is planning readings to raise awareness of the situation and raise funds to maintain vital support for the starving people of Yemen.
