Sloth offspring in Nordhorn: Sweet surprise before Christmas!
Animal lovers can look forward to a baby-like surprise at Nordhorn Zoo. Just before Christmas, sloth mom “Pig” gave birth to another cub lying on her stomach – what a heartbreaking sight! Just a few days ago, “Nala”, “Wutz’s” last baby, moved out and now the family has grown again. The 15-year-old “Wutz” and her husband “Sid”, who comes from Vienna and impresses with Austrian charm, ensure that there are lots of offspring in the sloth house. After birth, the newborn survived the first critical days well, but the gender remains unknown ems-vechte-surfer.de reported.
In Berlin, however, there is great news from the zoo: panda mom Meng Meng gave birth to twins on August 22nd! This special birth was only the second of its kind in Germany and was greeted with joy by everyone, even the governing mayor. The little ones, who were initially pink and naked, have now developed splendidly and already have their typical black and white fur pattern. Both cubs, whose gender was determined to be two females after a week, are lovingly cared for around the clock by their mother and the experienced panda team. This was reported in an article by tagesspiegel.de highlighted.
The breeding of panda twins is another example of successful animal breeding in zoological facilities. Both animals now weigh over 500 grams each. Their development is particularly important because giant pandas are critically endangered in the wild. For the sloths in Nordhorn and the pandas in Berlin, these births show how important the work of zoos is to protect biodiversity, while also providing an insight into the loving care that both animal species receive.
