A Girl and Binoculars: Rescue the Lost Princes!
The play “The Heartless Giant” celebrated its premiere at the Musiktheater an der Wien on December 15, 2024. In this enchanting performance, Lene, portrayed by Carina Schmieger, plays a little girl who immerses herself in a magical world through the discovery of mysterious binoculars. There she has the task of saving the helpless King Henrik and his three missing sons. “There are three princes that I have to save,” emphasizes Schmieger in an interview with Today.
The production is not only an exciting challenge, but also a nostalgic return for the talented soprano, who comes from a family of musicians and sang in the Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen children's choir as a child. Schmieger observes that work in the children's talent space is special because it requires concise and clear presentation to captivate young audiences. “In a way, yes,” she says about the challenge of making theater for children. “Everything needs to be a little clearer on stage.” The play will be performed again in two performances on Monday, December 18th, with tickets still available.
