Colorful house in Miesbach: A place for encounters and community
That happened in Miesbach Colorful house The Protestant parish under the leadership of Pastor Erwin Sergel has developed into a lively meeting center that has offered a home to numerous people over the last two years. With fixed opening hours and a variety of initiatives ranging from toddler groups to senior offers, the Bunte Haus has already recorded 27,000 visits in 2023 - a significant increase compared to the 21,000 visits in the previous year. This high level of acceptance indicates that the offerings are urgently needed in the community and that the church meeting place occupies an important place in the social fabric of Miesbach.
Innovative projects and awards
The Bunte Haus was awarded in June 2024 as part of the nationwide “StartSocial” competition under the patronage of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. This honor, which also included a cash prize of 35,000 euros, is evidence of the excellent work and social projects that were launched here, such as the Monday get-together and the social advice provided by the Diakonie. The jury selected the Buntes Haus as one of only seven initiatives, which underlines the innovative approach and inclusive atmosphere that prevails there. Martin Reents, a volunteer, emphasizes: “People meet here and democratic developments arise from this, which is new in rural areas.”
The success of the Buntes Haus is largely determined by the dedicated team of volunteers who greet visitors with open arms. The invitation to make the church an open place for everyone is having an impact: over 60 percent of visitors do not belong to the Protestant community. “The threshold to the church is high, but as soon as someone is here, that is no longer an issue,” explains Pastor Sergel. This togetherness is further promoted through various cultural and educational offerings that bring people into contact with one another.
In summary, the Colorful House shows that an active and inclusive community has many faces and that social cohesion can be achieved through commitment and openness. This positive development makes it clear that not only the number of visitors is increasing, but also the ideas and projects that enrich daily life in Miesbach.
