The district music festival in Abfaltersbach is celebrating its 200th anniversary with the music band from 25th to 27th. July 2025.
200 years of the Abfaltersbach music band: A celebration of sounds and tradition!
The Abfaltersbach music band will celebrate its 200th anniversary in July 2025. The event will be integrated into the framework of the traditional Oberland District Music Festival, which will be celebrated from July 25th to 27th. Chairman Johann Duregger and bandmaster Helmut Oberdorfer organized the celebrations, which begin with a march by the anniversary band and rifle companies. The ceremony promises to be a significant event for the community and the region.
The march starts on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., followed by a concert by the Abfaltersbach musicians. The highlight of the evening will be the performance of the band “Schnopsidee” at 10 p.m. On Saturday, the band will be accompanied by musicians from the Freistadt Rust Music Association, before the sounds of Burgenland introduce the evening at 10 p.m. in front of the “Party Hirschen”.
Festive program
Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. with a Holy Mass at the festival site. Afterwards, bands from neighboring communities will perform, including:
- 10:45 Uhr: Musikkapelle Heinfels
- 11:15 Uhr: Musikkapelle Außervillgraten
- 11:45 Uhr: Musikkapelle Obertilliach
- 12:15 Uhr: Musikkapelle Innervillgraten
The ceremony at 1:30 p.m. will include performances by “Das Kapellchen” as well as honors. Further short concerts will take place in the afternoon, including:
- 15:30 Uhr: Bundesmusikkapelle Strassen
- 16:00 Uhr: Musikkapelle Sillian
- 16:30 Uhr: Musikkapelle Anras
- 17:00 Uhr: Bundesmusikkapelle Kartitisch
- 17:30 Uhr: Musikkapelle Untertilliach
The end of the festival is organized by the North-South-East Bohemian and rounds off a varied program. In addition to the celebration, the collaboration between the bands is also mentioned, which is enlivened by younger bandmasters such as Hannes Bucher and Manuela Lusser. You have successfully completed your bandmaster training.
A look back
The upcoming anniversary is no coincidence: the music band has continuously gained in importance over the last few decades. Albin Pircher is considered one of the best baton leaders in Tyrol and has had a significant influence on the brass music scene in Abfaltersbach. This has contributed to strengthening community cohesion and promoting the tradition of brass music in the region.
The anniversary and the Oberland District Music Festival also commemorate future generations of musicians. The Tyrolean Brass Music Association's brochure, which is distributed to youth speakers and other officials, ensures that both newcomers and experienced bandmasters receive the support they need to successfully continue the brass music traditions. The documentation offers valuable recommendations and provides a guide for daily work.
And so the Abfaltersbach music band will not only celebrate its 200th anniversary, but also lay the foundation for a continued flourishing musical tradition in the region, which will be supported by current and future musicians.
