Israel accepts new US ceasefire proposal with Hamas
Israel has agreed to a new proposal for a ceasefire with Hamas presented by US special envoy Steve Witkoff. An Israeli official confirmed this to CNN.
Hamas is considering the proposal
Hamas said Thursday that it is "reviewing Witkoff's new proposal" and "analyzing it responsibly in order to protect the interests of our people, facilitate humanitarian assistance and achieve a lasting ceasefire."
Contents of the proposal
The Israeli official said the proposal calls for the release of 10 living and 18 deceased hostages, as well as a 60-day ceasefire. However, details about the start of negotiations for a lasting peace, a key focus of Hamas, remained unclear as Israel has so far refused to do so.
Netanyahu informs the families
According to the Forum for Hostages and Missing Persons, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported to the hostages' relatives the same day that he had accepted Witkoff's proposal.
