Digital future: Kenya's youth conquers the tech world with DigiTruck!

As part of Huawei's successful DigiTruck project, a graduation ceremony for 290 young people was held on March 17 in Homa Bay, Kenya. These graduates have been trained over the last six weeks in key digital skills that are essential in today's world. The graduates included 143 women and 147 men, who learned skills in areas such as computer application, digital marketing, entrepreneurship and cybersecurity. Dr. Raymond Omollo, State Secretary in the Kenyan Ministry of the Interior, emphasized: “Digital skills are no longer optional – they are mandatory.” This mobile classroom, mounted on a truck and equipped with modern digital tools, has reached a total of 6,030 youth since its launch in 2019.

Innovative solutions through training

The DigiTruck project, which has close collaborations with over 60 educational institutions, aims to support young job seekers, especially women, in rural areas and to bridge digital divides. Adam Lane, Director of Government Affairs and Policy at Huawei, highlighted that the success of the Homa Bay project can also be measured through an innovation competition that enabled participants to develop solutions to local challenges, particularly in the areas of health services and cybersecurity.

In another context, experienced entrepreneur Sabine Asgodom encouraged women to become more aware of their own potential. She emphasized that women are often more critical of their abilities than men and argued that decision-makers should pay less attention to volume and more to performance. “Women should become aware of their previous successes,” said Asgodom, emphasizing the importance of self-confident resource management in order to tackle new challenges. According to Asgodom, it is essential that more women get into leadership positions because leadership should be humane and show appreciation. The connection between digital skills from projects like DigiTruck and empowering women in leadership roles is obvious, as both form the basis for a successful and inclusive future.
