School education for everyone: Children in the global south fight for opportunities!
Vishakhapatnam, Indien - Vienna, 09.12.2024 - Dramatic figures about the educational emergency worldwide: 251 million children and adolescents are without school education, while 650 million are leaving school without a recognized conclusion. UNESCO publishes this alarming data in the world education report. On the occasion of the upcoming world day of human rights, which will be celebrated on December 10th, Reinhard Heierer, Managing Director of the aid organization Welt , emphasis that children in the global south in particular often have no chance of basic school education. The organization has been committed to school and training projects in South America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe for 27 years.
Heiererer recently returned from a trip to India, where he visited numerous projects that are supported by a youth. "Education is a human right and every child has a right to education!" Emphasizes Heierer. In this region, children from disadvantaged conditions receive a world and local partners the opportunity to learn to read, write and arithmetic thanks to the support of youth. One example is the “Beach Blossom” project in Vishakhapatnam, which prepares children aged five to eight for school. "Over 1,000 children have benefited from these programs that are offered during the afternoon hours," explains Heiererer.

In addition, Heierer is reminiscent of the "Agenda 2030 for sustainable development", which was adopted by the United Nations in 2015. According to this agenda, all children, regardless of gender and origin, should be given high quality education by 2030.
