Artificial fertilization is booming: millions of desired children since 1978!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - The artificial fertilization is on the rise! Since the birth of the first IVF baby, Louise Brown, in 1978, more and more couples all over the world take this method. According to Apa-OTS , the International Committee has released for monitoring reproductive technologies (ICMART) in the past four decades: 10 and 13 million children were created worldwide with the help of artificial insemination - this corresponds to about a newborn every 35 seconds. Over 4 million of these births were particularly registered in Europe. But the competition is not sleeping: since 2015 more babies have been born by IVF in Asia than in Europe.
global fertility rates in change
At the same time, the latest data show that in many regions, especially in Africa and Latin America, which is high, but the supply of fertility treatments is often not guaranteed. Wikipedia emphasizes that the fertility rate is 1.53 births per woman, which is significantly below the necessary level of 2.1 to keep the population stable. If a fertility rate of 2.38 is required in the People's Republic of China due to an unfavorable gender ratio to keep the population level, this shows the urgent need for action.
The authors of the ICMART report emphasize the importance of covering the growing need for fertility treatments in order to slow down the global decline in population and the aging of society. The current supply only covers 10% of the needs internationally. With statistically up to 10% of all children born in Europe who are born through artificial insemination, it becomes clear that it is time to seriously tackle this topic and to find innovative solutions for an urgent global problem.
