Wernberger Advent: Thousands celebrate the festive market full of surprises!
The Wernberg Advent 2023 was a festive highlight that took place on the Saturday before the first Sunday of Advent in the Wernberg community. Hundreds of visitors flocked to the community square to celebrate the opening of this traditional event. Mayor Doris Liposchek was pleased with the lively participation in the market, which featured more than 30 exhibitors from Wernberg and the surrounding area. Visitors had the opportunity to purchase handmade goods and sample culinary delicacies, such as meinkreis.at reported.
Celebratory highlights and children's joys
As darkness fell, the highlights of the Advent market were celebrated. Father Bruno blessed the Christmas tree, while the children from the Damtschach and Goritschach kindergartens gave Santa a warm welcome with songs and poems. Every child present received a gift bag filled with sweets, which made the little ones even more happy. The evening was musically accompanied by the singers Karoline Hecher and Doris Ozwirk as well as the hunting horn group Landskron, who contributed to the festive atmosphere meinkreis.at.
Financial challenges of the community
But not everything is going smoothly in the community. Mayor Liposchek informed in an interview about the tense financial situation, which for the first time in the municipality's history resulted in a negative budget of 1.5 million euros. This financial burden results not only from the general global economic crisis, but also from increased levy payments to the state of Carinthia, which increased by 790,000 euros compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the municipality is planning important projects for 2024 such as the purchase of a multi-purpose vehicle for the fire department, the completion of plans for a railway underpass and investments in kindergartens and schools 5min.at reported.
