Debacle at the Paraski World Cup: only two descents this season!
The Paraski World Cup in Marburg, Slovenian, shows up from two sides: While the speed competitions were not available there due to snow defects, the athletes in Sella Neevea had to struggle with too much fresh snow, which also led to the cancellation of the competitions. The Carinthian Markus Salcher regretted that very few descents took place this season: "This is very bitter," he says, because in the winter season only two descents and five Super-G races were made possible. So the balance for Salcher and other athletes remains more than sobering. In the departure rating of the standing class, he still took second place behind the Swiss Robin Cuche, while Thomas Volgger also secured second place in the Super-G classification, as krone.at
But hope dies last! From Tuesday, the title fights in Hafjell/Lillehammer (Norway) will go into the decisive phase. Salcher has achieved at least one medal at every World Paraski World Championship since 2013 and does everything possible to continue this series. So far, the 30-year-old Carinthian has won nine medals, and in Norway he could add the tenth. "A medal is always the goal, so again this year," explains Salcher and is optimistic, even if he and the other speed specialists have hardly any comparison this year.
on the World Cup!
The upcoming World Cup in Norway is not only a sporty highlight, for the athletes it also rings the end of a long waiting time. Coronapandemic had prevented the event last year. Salcher is already immersed in preparations for his first race of the season after he has trained on Nassfeld. The schedule stipulates that the first of two departure training takes place on Tuesday. In addition to the speed disciplines, the focus is also on the giant slalom as well as possible participation in the combination and in the parallel event. The sporting challenges are enormous, but Salcher remains calm: "It makes it exciting, of course, because nobody knows exactly where you are in the departure," says the athlete, as well as Markussalcher.at notes.
