Stade Français in the undercover bitterness: Will it be a miracle against Toulouse?
Laurent Labit, the sporting director of the Stade Français, is optimistic despite the challenges that await his team in the upcoming match against Stade Toulousain, which will take place at the stadium on December 29th. After their victory today (24-7) over Perpignan, Labit emphasizes the importance of the game and speaks humorously about his plans. Instead of praying in Lourdes, the team will “pray a lot around the Christmas tree” (Ladepeche reported). This humorous remark highlights the coach's relaxed yet serious attitude when it comes to his team's performance, which has been struggling on the field in recent times.
The signs are mixed: While Toulouse has a strong record this season, Stade Français can look back on a positive trend in recent duels. The Parisians have achieved one win and one draw in the last ten meetings against Toulouse and have defeated their opponents six times. “We know the pressure situations and the history of these matches,” explains Labit, adding that despite the successes they will depend on their own performance (Rugbyrama reported). At the moment the team is motivated, even if they missed the bonus point in the game against Perpignan. Labit sums up the problem: “We have to use our chances more effectively and for over 80 minutes.” The last few games in particular, where discipline was lacking, need to be improved in order to be able to survive against unpredictable opponents like Toulouse.
Labit and his team look forward to the upcoming classic with mixed feelings. “We know that we have to play at the highest level and depend on the rhythm and strategy of the Tolousians,” he admits. The sports director is clear: If they want to survive in Toulouse, they have to present their best rugby and pray for a “small miracle”. “It won't be an easy task,” Labit concludes, showing off his excitement for the match with a smile.
