Ester Ledecka before Olympic dilemma: skiing or snowboarding?

At the 2026 Olympic Games, Ester Ledecka is faced with a crucial choice that could determine her sporting fate. The successful athlete has to choose between departure in skiing and the parallel giant slalom in the snowboard, as both competitions take place on February 8th. This was confirmed by the FIS, which rejected her application to change the competition calendar. Ledecka dreams of showing her skills in both disciplines, but the exam could not be more challenging, as Die Krone reports.

Ester Ledecka, who has already written sports history with gold medals both in skiing and snowboarding, hopes for a solution: "I hope you give me a chance that I can deliver this unique show," she said, emphasizing that it is her biggest dream to shine in both disciplines. Nevertheless, the competitions in Cortina d’Ampezzo and Livigno are determined, which makes it impossible for her to take part in both. However, Ledecka could start on the Super-G on February 12, where she does not have to decide and has the chance to win medals in both sports, as in an article by EUROSPORT is described.

The decision could also have an impact on other athletes, such as Ramona Hofmeister, who has better medal opportunities in the overall World Cup without Ledecka. While Ledecka only took part in a snowboard World Cup this season and was therefore only on the podium on the departure, her talent in both sports remains unmistakable. She managed to prove herself at the highest level and could cause a sensation again in both ski and snowboarding.
