Vorarlberg successfully fights greenhouse gases: record values 2022!
The latest emission data from Vorarlberg show a pleasant decline in greenhouse gases: in 2022 only 1.9 million tons of CO2 were emitted, a decline of 7.6 percent compared to previous years. This is the lowest value in over 30 years! The main causes are traffic (43 percent), followed by buildings (21 percent) and industry (16 percent), as the reported.
A monitoring report from 2023 also points out that the final energy consumption in Vorarlberg has increased by eight percent compared to 2005. Nevertheless, a significant decrease in emissions from 2005 to 2021 was recorded by 13 percent. As early as 2021, the country reached the goal of receiving 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources. However, further efforts are necessary to meet the requirements for greenhouse gases and the proportion of domestic energy sources. According to press Vorarlberg , the state government will therefore have to implement additional measures in the areas of green electricity and e-mobility to get closer to the climate goals.
The Vorarlberg government has set itself ambitious goals: the greenhouse gas emissions are to be halved by 2030 compared to 2005. The need for energy transition is urgent because the last summer was characterized by record temperatures. It is important to intensify the expansion of photovoltaics and green electricity projects in order to reduce both consumption and reduce emissions in the transport sector. These developments are crucial to achieve the climate goals and to secure a more sustainable energy future for the region.
