Tenager in the UK for 52 years for murders sentenced to Southport girls

A British teenager who killed three young girls at a dance event inspired by Taylor Swift was sentenced to at least 52 years in prison on Thursday. Prime Minister Keir Strander described the attack as one of the most shocking events in the history of Great Britain.

Details for crime

Axel Rudakubana, 18 years old, confessed to killed the girls and injured ten other people in the northern English city of Southport in July last year. The atrocities shook the whole country and led to the days of riots.

prosecutor describes the atrocities

Prosecutor Deanna Heer reported to the Liverpool Crown Court that Rudakubana had an obsession for violence and genocide. Two of his victims suffered such serious injuries that it was difficult to interpret them as something other than sadistic.

judgment of the judge

Judge Julian Goose found that Rudakubana should spend at least 52 years in prison. However, he was unable to impose life imprisonment because Rudakubana was only 17 years old at the time of the attack. However, it is unlikely that he will ever be released.

emotional court scene

During the negotiation, Rudakubana was removed from the courtroom several times after he called out that he was not doing well. He refused to return to hear his judgment.

The present had to see frightening video recordings that showed girls who fled out of the building screaming. A blood -covered girl collapsed in front of the building, which was horrified in the audience.

statements by those affected

Leanne Lucas, 36, the yoga teacher and organizer of the dance event, who was stabbed five times, reported: "He specifically attacked us because we were women and girls, vulnerable and easy prey."

The girls killed were Bebe King (6 years), Elsie Dot Stancombe (7 years) and Alice Dasilva Aguiar (9 years). A total of 26 children were present at the event. Two of the victims suffered at least 85 and 122 stab wounds, and it seemed as if Rudakubana had tried to behead one of the girls.

psychological constitution of the perpetrator

After his arrest, Rudakubana said to the police: "I am glad that these children are dead, it makes me happy." During searches of his living space, the authorities found pictures and documents that testify to the long -term obsession for violence, murder and genocide. In addition, Rudakubana admitted the possession of an al-Qaida training manual and the production of Ricin, a fatal poison, the use of the judges was very likely.

no terrorist motifs

Heer made it clear that the murders are not classified as terrorism, since Rudakubana was not motivated by a specific political or religious ideology. Materials were found on his devices that mocked religions such as Islam, Judaism and Christianity. "It is not possible to identify a specific terrorist motivation," says Heer. "Instead, the evidence indicates that it was Rudakubana's goal to commit mass murder as an end in itself."

History of violence

Rudakubana had contacted a hotline for children in 2019 and asked: "What should I do if I want to kill someone?" Shortly afterwards he was expelled from his school because he confessed to having brought a knife ten times. He was also arrested in his backpack with a knife after he had returned to school and had attacked a classmate with a hockey racket.

He was also referred to a program for the -deradicalization, known as the Prevent, after he had investigated research on amoclets in schools and uploaded pictures of the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi on Instagram. Nevertheless, no further measure was taken.

public investigation arranged

The government has ordered a public investigation because there are serious questions to clarify. Prime Minister Starmer said: "After one of the most shocking moments in the history of our country, we owe the innocent young girls and everyone affected to bring about the changes they deserve."
