Selenskyj calls for security guarantees for raw material agreements with the USA

The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj made it clear at the Munich Security Conference that he will not sign an agreement on the delivery of the most important raw materials to the USA. This explained Selenskyj on Saturday and emphasized that he had prohibited his ministers of ratifying the agreement because it "does not protect us". He demands security guarantees for Ukraine from the United States, which is currently suffering from Russian attack. The planned economic agreement, in which Ukraine should offer valuable raw materials such as rare earths in exchange for military support, is now on the brink, as on krone.at

Selenskyj called for more security and emphasized the strategic importance of the Ukrainian resources, in particular lithium and titanium, which are critical of aerospace and electric vehicles. While the US government is interested in this economic contract, the blockade of Selenskyj is surprising and could significantly burden the relationships between Kiev and Washington. In the middle of these tensions, Selenskyj also expressed his praise for the support of Germany, especially for Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz, whom he described as "great guys", as fnp.de to report.

Ukraine is dependent on foreign aid to defend itself against aggression from Russia. Selenskyj emphasizes that German help was always very pragmatic and not loud, which gives the supporters of Ukraine additional support. There is also speculation that Taurus rockets could be delivered under a possible government of Merz, but it remains unclear how this could work in the current geopolitical situation.
