Schleswig-Holstein: Over 100 new wind turbines for the green turn!
In Schleswig-Holstein there is an exciting progress in wind power use: over 100 new wind turbines went into operation this year. After the state government has agreed new, loosened regulations for wind energy in summer to achieve the goal of becoming the first climate -neutral federal state by 2040. According to the managing director of the regional association of renewable energies, Marcus Hrach, the balance sheet looks promising until November. It is optimistic that the desired performance of ten gigawatts can be achieved by the end of 2025, provided that all approved systems will be installed by then. Ten percent of the area of Schleswig-Holstein is reserved for wind power, while the remaining 90 percent of the country area are kept free by new wind turbines, as the NDR reported.
new plans for wind power
The state government has also launched new regional plans for wind turbines. Interior Minister Hans-Joachim Grote (CDU) explained that the planned expansion of the wind power area to 1.95 percent of the country area is almost finished. This enables the goal of ten gigawatts to be achieved by 2025. With this plan, around 3,600 wind turbines are also to be installed in the north of the country in 2025. The minimum distances to settlements were increased to 1000 meters, whereby they even have to be three times the height of the wind turbines in sparsely populated areas, which is a new challenge for many communities. Further clear changes include the upgrade of existing, older wind turbines, which is regarded as an important measure that allows the efficiency of the existing wind power potential in Schleswig-Holstein to increase, such as Welt reported.
The new strategy comes to the large number of objections - a total of 6500 - that led to the plans had to be adjusted. There are currently around 3100 wind turbines in Schleswig-Holstein and the planned expansion of the priority areas is crucial for the further creation of new wind power projects. While numerous restrictions in the nature conservation area are relaxed, the government endeavors to promote sustainable energy sources efficiently and to support the goals to achieve climate neutrality in order to be a role model for other federal states.
