News from the government: Rental price brake and budget provision in focus!
The turquoise-red-pink triple coalition of ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS will meet for the first time to the Council of Ministers: On Wednesday, the introduction of a rental price brake is on the agenda. This regulation required by the SPÖ is to be presented in a live stream, as the "crown" reports. As early as 10.45 a.m., the party leaders, including Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP), Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler (SPÖ) and Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger (NEOS), submit first statements before the meeting. In the Council of Ministers, there is also an urgently needed measures to control the rental prices and the implementation of a nationwide ban on knife carrier, according to ORF. These measures are to be decided in March to counteract possible rent increases in April. For Friday, the decision of a budget provisional in the National Council is also planned to give the government more time to create the 2025/26 double budget.
The government has agreed to save around 6.4 billion euros this year and 8.7 billion euros in the next year. In the next few weeks there will also be various reforms on the agenda, including the adaptation of the Federal Minister Act, which defines the responsibilities of the ministries. The new government is required to act quickly and already consider several austerity measures that could come into force before summer.
