Hymnen conflict: Styria is the focus of political turbulence!

Celje, Slowenien - The conflict over the Styrian national anthem reaches a new escalation level. The governor of Styria, Mario Kunasek (FPÖ), confirmed his support for the hymn and described it as an essential symbol of the federal state. In a Facebook posting, he found that the plans for the constitutional protection of the hymn, which are recorded in the coalition program of FPÖ and ÖVP, should not be regarded as an attack on sovereignty and the rule of law. In contrast to the Slovenian ethnic group in Austria, he critically commented on discrimination that is exposed to ancient Austrians in Slovenia. This was reported by the company orf.at .

The Slovenian Foreign Ministry has asked for prudence and emphasized that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country should be preserved. At the same time, the accusation that the historical development of the Dachstein song was insufficiently taken into account in the current plans. The song has roots in the 19th century and refers to areas that have not been part of Styria for over 100 years. The green opposition leader Sandra Krautwaschl was keen on the state government's projects, which she criticized as a split symbol policy. In her view, the reference to no longer existing areas in the constitution is not durable, which was also taken up by krone.at

These developments raise questions about long -term cooperation between Austria and Slovenia and show how sensitive the topic of national identity in the region is. The Styrian governor fights vehemently for the anthem, while the Slovenian government is trying to take a respectful dialogue and indicates past conflicts.
