Ex-Health Minister Niedzielski convicted: scandal about doctor data!

Poznań, Polen - Adam Niedzielski, the former Minister of Health in Poland, is the focus of a explosive court proceedings. A court in Warsaw sentenced him to three months in prison, but which were suspended for two years. The reason for the verdict is serious: Niedzielski has made the private medical data of a doctor public. In addition, he has to pay compensation of around 1,170 euros and bear the court costs, as n-tv.de reported.

The incident occurred after critical TV reporting, in which a doctor from Poznan reported about difficulties in the exhibition of electronic recipes. Niedzielski reacted by claiming on Twitter that the doctor could easily prescribe psychotropic drugs and pain relievers. He also called the full name of the doctor concerned. This campaign was evaluated as a serious violation of the medical confidentiality by the Polish Medical Association and led to considerable public criticism of the government of the PIS. Niedzielski initially justified his procedure with the protection of patient interests, but resigned from his post in August 2023 after the public pressure further increased. A spokesman for the public prosecutor said that the judgment was "appropriate to the degree of guilt". The doctor concerned also expressed himself positively about the judge's decision and saw an important signal for politicians that they can be held accountable for misuse of their power, as OE24.at
