Biden promises massive arms deliveries according to Russia's Christmas attack

A devastating attack at Christmas! President Joe Biden condemned the Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure as "outrageous" and promises a massive wave of arms deliveries to Ukraine. The attack, which took place on Wednesday, not only left destruction, but also a dead - a worker of the energy supply. The Ukrainians were looking for protection in subway stations, while the rockets and drones went down on their cities.

Over 170 rockets and drones were fired from Moscow to Ukraine, with the aim of saboting the country's energy supply during the cold winter months. Biden said: "The purpose of this outrageous attack was to interrupt the access of the Ukrainian people to warmth and electricity and to endanger the safety of the power grid." The Ukrainian Air Force reported that it could intercept 59 rockets and 54 drones, while 52 other drones were disturbed.

an attack on the wrong time

Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj spoke of the inhumanity of the attack: "Putin intentionally chose Christmas to attack. What could be more inhumane?" The attacks on the energy infrastructure are not new - this was already the 13th large attack this year, part of a brutal campaign that aims to weaken Ukraine in the winter months.

The attacks also met Charkiw, the second largest city in Ukraine, where at least seven explosions triggered fire in the city. Local authorities reported at least three injuries. The Ukrainian armed forces did not remain idle and shot 20 out of 31 Russian drones on the night.

Russia reacts to Ukrainian attacks

In the meantime, the Russian domestic intelligence agency FSB reported that it had thwarted a plan of the Ukrainian secret services that aimed to kill high -ranking Russian officers and their families in Moscow. This was done just a few weeks after the fatal attack on Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, which was killed by the Ukrainian SBU in Moscow.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrow warned that Russia will react to the Ukrainian attacks carried out with western rockets and drones. "We only aim at military facilities and infrastructure, and it is not in our rules to hit civilians," emphasized Lawrov.

The Ukraine officially celebrated Christmas for the second time after the government postponed the holiday from January to December to reveal Russia. Almost 200 people sung through the center of Kiev and held on to their traditions despite the attacks.

In the middle of this chaotic situation, the question remains: How long can Ukraine withstand this pressure? The Ukrainian armed forces are inferior to the front of the Charkiw and Donetsk regions and have to assert themselves against better equipped Russian troops. Both sides are in a race to gain an advantage before the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, who promised a quick peace. This raises the worrying question whether Washington Kiev could urge it to accept an agreement that is advantageous for Moscow.
