In Kiev, an officer from the Ukrainian secret service SBU was shot dead in a suspected assassination attempt. Investigations are underway as police search for the perpetrator.

An officer of the Ukrainian security service was shot dead in Kyiv on Thursday morning. Authorities report an apparent murder.
Details about the investigation
A spokesman for the SBU security service said that an officer was killed in Kiev and that investigations into the murder were underway. The officer's identity has not been released, other than to say he is an SBU officer.
Video footage of the incident
Decommissioned CCTV footage purporting to show the attack was shared on local Telegram channels. CNN cannot independently confirm the authenticity of the footage, but the locations match official crime scene photographs released by Kyiv police.
The clip shows a man leaving an apartment building in Kyiv during the day. He is carrying some bags and walking toward a car parked nearby when he is approached by a masked individual who appears to be holding a gun. The attacker fires and the man with the bags collapses to the ground. A passerby can be seen running away from the scene.
The masked attacker then fires again before fleeing the scene.
Police search operation
The Kiev police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrator and said that the attacker is being “identified”. Police are conducting the investigation in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and confirmed that the victim was found at the scene with a gunshot wound.
Role of the SBU
The SBU is Ukraine's main security service. Among other things, he was responsible for Ukraine's bold drone attack on Russian airfields last month.
Under the name “Operation Spiderweb” The drone attack was a huge success for Kyiv and a major embarrassment for Moscow.
SBU operatives managed to smuggle dozens of drones deep into Russia, launching from close to military airfields and surprising Moscow.

Ukrainian security sources previously told CNN that the SBU was behind the killing of Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov who was wanted by Kyiv for suspected use of chemical weapons.
