Scandal surrounding Vösendorf's ex-mayor: suspected crime in the trial!

The former ÖVP mayor of Vösendorf, Hannes Koza, is facing an explosive trial. On December 10, 2024, Koza claimed to have been attacked by a masked stranger in Vösendorf Castle Park on his way home from the municipal office. He told the police that he had been hit in the face with his fist without warning and reported that the attacker had threatened him that he would not survive the local council meeting the next day. The injuries Koza sustained were well documented through self-published photos showing the injuries to his face. These incidents led to the following municipal council meeting being held under police supervision, as was the case Small newspaper reported.

However, the situation took a dramatic turn for Koza. Instead of being the victim, he quickly became the accused. He resigned on February 20, admitting that he had caused the injuries himself by lying on the ground in the castle grounds and hitting his head. This leads to serious allegations that are now bringing him before the Wiener Neustadt regional court. He is charged with faking a crime and making false statements to evidence. A carnage, because during his interrogation he is said to have deceived the police about the alleged attack and also threatened to make untrue statements like this MyDistrict reported further.

Process and possible consequences

The trial against Koza, which begins on March 20 at 9:30 a.m., could have serious consequences for him. According to his defense attorney, Koza has confessed and it is expected that the outcome could end in a suspended sentence. The political landscape in the municipality has already changed due to his resignation, as the ÖVP deputy mayor Birgit Petross has taken over the leadership of the municipality and a new election is in the offing in the fall.
