Rescue operation after a failed hike: six Germans in distress!
A dramatic incident occurred in Vorarlberg on Sunday afternoon: six German hikers had to be rescued by a police helicopter after they overreached themselves on a planned tour to the Mörzelspitze. The group, aged between 20 and 22, started below the Kobelalpe around 12 p.m. But when they were still stuck on the climb around 5 p.m. and feeling exhausted, it was clear that they were not sufficiently prepared for the winter conditions, reports krone.at.
The “Libelle” police helicopter was used and brought the exhausted hikers to Ebnit, where the Alpine police picked them up and took them back to their vehicles. Particularly critical criticism was the lack of alpine equipment and the inadequate planning of the tour, which the police classified as grossly negligent. Offsetting the deployment costs could now be examined. Luckily no one was injured, but the situation could easily have turned out differently.
The Mörzelspitze – a popular hike
The hike to the Mörzelspitze is interesting but challenging, as described on bergfex.at. The circular tour begins at the parking lot, leads past alpine huts and over the Leuenkopf to the impressive Mörzelspitze at an altitude of 1,830 meters. Despite the mostly breathtaking views, it is not for the inexperienced or those without the appropriate equipment. It is important to consider the dangers of the conditions, especially in winter. The hike is usually a popular activity among tourists and locals in both summer and winter, but requires careful planning and preparation.
