Police strike drug ring in Vienna: 6 kilos of crystal meth seized!

Vienna police have carried out a significant crackdown on drug trafficking. On May 8, 2025, five people were arrested as part of an extensive surveillance operation and a total of six kilograms of crystal meth and almost 39,000 euros in cash were seized. The operation began with the observation of two suspicious men in Vienna-Neubau who were handling a red cooler bag. The younger of the two men, 25 years old, drove with the cooler to Steinbauergasse in Vienna-Meidling, where the 39-year-old man got into his car and returned with a larger plastic container.

During the subsequent check on the 39-year-old, the officers found around a kilogram of crystal meth. After this alleged drug handover, the 25-year-old returned to Kenyongasse, which confirmed the suspicion of a hidden drug storage facility, a so-called bunker apartment. This bunker apartment was then searched and the investigators found what they were looking for: five kilograms of crystal meth and 38,745 euros in cash were seized, while four other people between the ages of 25 and 33, all with Serbian citizenship, were arrested in the premises.

Additional drug discovery

The investigation led the police to another apartment, where an additional 64.1 grams of cocaine were found. The type of drugs stored in the bunker apartment was not explained in detail in the reports, but the quantities confiscated suggest extensive drug trafficking. Drug consumption, particularly substances such as crystal meth, has become increasingly important internationally in recent years, as a study into the development of drug-related offenses shows.

Overall, this operation is a further step towards combating drug trafficking in Vienna. The steady increase in amphetamine and methamphetamine crimes requires consistent police action to ensure public safety and curb the spread of these dangerous drugs. The number of amphetamine-related drug offenses has reportedly increased significantly in recent years, highlighting the challenges facing law enforcement.

Further information about drug statistics can be found at Statista. The investigations carried out by the Vienna police so far are part of a comprehensive and ongoing strategy to combat drug trafficking in the capital, which will continue to be pursued.
