New police safety center in St. Pölten: Bau starts in 2027!

In St. Pölten, the new police safety center in Lower Austria accepts concrete forms. With the selection of the architectural team Pfaffenbichler ZT-GmbH and Maurer & Partner ZT GmbH as the best bidder, the planning process is on a solid foundation. As reported noe.gv.at, the decision of the evaluation commission was based on several factors, including price, architecture, functionality and sustainability. This decision was a decisive step in the development process, because the Lower Austrian state government has now officially given the starting signal for the design planning.

The planned concept provides for a new building as an open campus, which is connected by internal traffic axes and footflow paths. The gross floor area is around 36,000 square meters and the total construction costs are estimated at around 171.2 million euros (status Q1 2023). The start of the construction work is planned for the summer of 2027, while completion is expected in spring 2030.

location and public

Another positive aspect is the new location of the center, which is now to be created behind the “combination west”. This means an expanded distance between housing estates compared to the original planning. Residents were informed about the winning project and further steps as part of an information event on July 17th.

The project is implemented by the state of Lower Austria, while the federal government will act as a tenant. Political support for the project is available; Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) described the project as a sign of the protection of the population, while Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) praised it as a "flagship project".

modernization as part of the real estate strategy

The new police security center is part of a more comprehensive strategy for modernizing the police stations in Austria. As reported 5min.at, a total of 296 police stations in Austria are modernized. This modernization program of the Interior Ministry includes various facilities such as police inspections and security centers, with basic renovation work also required. The renovation measures include, among other things, coloring, the renewal of sanitary facilities and the modernization of floors.

Interestingly, the development of new buildings and renovations in recent years shows the development of recent years. 52 real estate projects were realized last year, while in 2023 34 departments were modernized. These initiatives are part of the strategy to renew the departments both functionally and visually, whereby the interior minister is working closely with the landlords of the relevant properties to ensure the quality standards.

Overall, the progressiveness of the new police safety center in St. Pölten and the broader strategy of agency modernization indicates a targeted investment in public security, which takes into account both the requirements of the police and the needs of the population.
